The three very bright stars Vega, Deneb, and Altair constitute what is known as The Summer Triangle.  Since it contains the three brightest stars of summer and late autumn, The Summer Triangle is a very convenient reference for finding other star groups.

At a short distance east of Altair lie the faint stars of Delphinus, The Dolphin to the south of which lies the westernmost stars of Capricornus, The Sea Goat.  There is part of another constellation visible near Capricornus, but I shall reserve discussion of that for our September soiré into the night sky.
